Mike was born in Arizona but followed his parents around the west to large construction jobs. He lived in Nevada (Henderson), California (Fresno, Shaver Lake, Palmdale, Little Rock, Lancaster, Catfish Landing, Big Bend on the Colorado), Alaska (Ketchican), Oregon (Chemult, Diamond Lake), Washington (Yale, on the south slope of Mt. St. Helens), and Idaho (Irwin), before he entered fifth grade. His formative years were spent in Antelope Valley, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. After his military service, he spent eight years in Anchorage where he married and started a family. Seattle held him for thirteen years and he has been in Tucson since 1990 (except for a brief sojourn to Salem, Oregon) where he lives with his wife of 41 years and their three cats.
He worked as a lifeguard and motel flunky in Las Vegas, on land survey crews in Alaska, and as a real estate agent/broker (also Alaska), but has been a commercial real estate appraiser since 1973.
Mike has held many titles over the decades although his favorites are husband, father, grandfather, and sergeant of Recon Marines.
